Cameroon possesses vast untapped mineral reserves, yet the local manufacturing sector for non-metallic minerals remains fragmented. Currently, there is a rising demand for refined kaolin clay for skin whitening as the local cosmetics industry shifts toward natural, mineral-based ingredients to cater to urban consumer preferences in Douala and Yaoundé.
The environmental climate of Cameroon, characterized by high humidity and varied terrain, necessitates minerals with specific physical properties. For instance, the construction sector is increasingly scrutinizing the density of wollastonite to improve the thermal insulation and structural integrity of buildings designed to withstand tropical weathering.
Despite the availability of raw silica, many local firms still import processed fillers. There is a critical gap in understanding that diatomaceous earth is silica in a highly porous form, which could be leveraged for advanced water filtration and agricultural soil conditioning across the region's fertile belt.
