The non-metallic mineral sector in Iraq is currently undergoing a transition from raw extraction to value-added processing. Due to the arid climate and unique soil composition, there is a surging demand for processed kaolin clay for skin whitening as local cosmetic brands seek to stabilize their formulations against extreme temperature fluctuations.
In the industrial sphere, construction and ceramics remain dominant. However, there is a critical technical gap in understanding precise mineral properties, such as the density of wollastonite, which is essential for reinforcing Iraqi building materials against seismic shifts and thermal expansion.
Furthermore, the agricultural and filtration sectors are beginning to explore the utility of silica-based materials. Understanding that diatomaceous earth is silica has led to new applications in water purification across the Tigris and Euphrates basins, reducing reliance on expensive imports.
