Ghana's mineral sector is traditionally dominated by gold and bauxite, but there is a surging demand for processed non-metallic minerals. The local manufacturing of kaolin clay for skin whitening has seen rapid growth as the regional beauty industry shifts toward natural, mineral-based formulations.
However, the industry faces challenges in purification and standardization. Many local producers struggle with consistent particle size distribution, which is critical when calculating the density of wollastonite for use in reinforced polymers or ceramics within the Accra industrial zone.
Furthermore, the agricultural and filtration sectors are increasingly importing processed silica. Understanding that diatomaceous earth is silica is driving a transition toward more sustainable, locally sourced absorbent materials to reduce logistics costs across Ghana.
