Uganda possesses a diverse geological profile, yet the processing of non-metallic minerals has historically been rudimentary. The current market shows a surging demand for specialized additives like kaolin clay for skin whitening, driven by the growth of local cosmetic SMEs in Kampala and Entebbe.
However, the industry faces challenges regarding the standardization of material properties. For instance, industrial manufacturers often struggle with inconsistent density of wollastonite in imported batches, which affects the mechanical strength of local construction composites and ceramics.
Furthermore, there is a growing awareness of silica-based filtering agents. While many are discovering that diatomaceous earth is silica in its purest form, the lack of local high-grade refining facilities necessitates the import of processed powders for agricultural and industrial use.
