Zambia's mineral wealth is traditionally dominated by copper, but the non-metallic sector is seeing a surge in demand. The local manufacturing of skincare products has created a significant niche for kaolin clay for skin whitening, as regional beauty brands shift toward natural, mineral-based ingredients to cater to local skin types and climates.
Industrial infrastructure in Zambia is currently evolving to process raw ores into high-value additives. The demand for precise material properties, such as the specific density of wollastonite, is increasing in the local construction and ceramics industries to improve structural reinforcement and thermal stability.
Despite the availability of raw materials, there is a critical gap in advanced refining technology. Many local producers still rely on basic sedimentation, whereas the global market now demands processed minerals where it is clearly understood that diatomaceous earth is silica, requiring specialized calcination to achieve the desired porosity for filtration.
